For many years, at the Alberta school, a huge garden was planted in the spring; the largest portion being potatoes. In the fall, the harvest would involve the entire school – staff and students to bring in the potato crop.
A tradition developed where Frank & Nancy Wiens (St. John’s Founders) would come out to help with the harvest. The meals for the day would all involve potatoes; many new recipes sampled. As well, the dining room would be decorated with potato characters.
