Stanley Mission, a community located on the banks of the Churchill River 80 kilometres north east of the town of La Ronge, was a regular stop on St. John’s canoe trips. If you paddled the Churchill River, you stopped at Stanley Mission.
Holy Trinity Anglican Church, at the mission was designed by Rev. Robert Hunt and built between 1854 and 1860 by local Cree craftsmen using locally cut lumber as well as hardware and stained glass that Rev. Hunt brought from England. It is currently the oldest standing building in Saskatchewan.
