A suggestion for Memory Monday came in to me – remember when the students stayed at the school for the first six weeks of the school year. There were no phone calls home, no visits from parents and lots of time to fill in at the school. Letter writing was the only means of communicating with home. This meant that the staff had to find activities to keep the students occupied on the weekends when classes were finished. There would be a football game with staff and students, the Septemberfest activities and a variety of other sports. The senior students were recruited to help plan how to fill in the time.
