Our Memory Monday, from June 1st of this year , told the story of the 2005 reenactment of paying the “Queen’s rent”. Some of our students joined the original crew from the 1967 Alberta canoe brigade and paddled from Rocky Mountain House to Fort Edmonton with 2 elk hides and 2 beaver pelts to present to the Queen for the rent.
On December 21, 2015 while visiting the Magna Carta exhibit at the Federal Building in Edmonton, we toured the Alberta history interactive display. There we found one of the elk hides that had been delivered by the 2005 student voyageur group. It was great to see that it is still on display!
Who remembers that trip? Meeting the “old guys” and delivering the rent? Send us your story.
