In July 1989 a group of St. John’s staff, students and a parent gave up a portion of their summer holiday to participate in the Bicentennial of Alexander McKenzie’s discovery of the McKenzie River. They paddled from Fort Providence N.W.T to Inuvik. There were 24 students and staff from the school, along with the former Chairman of the Board of Directors. They were part of a race – although they were the only ones who actually paddled the entire distance…
