I came across this picture while scanning an assortment of pictures. Even though we are presently in the warm temperatures of a great summer, it stuck me as a great shot. I am not sure what year it is – 2002??
Who remembers this trip in the cold climes of the winter mountains in Alberta? Who was on this trip? Send us your story.

At first I thought you’d slipped us a ringer — a non SJSA pic. but that sure looks like an SJSA parka.
Well, it didn’t go through the safety committee any year I was on it. The slopes on either side are bare and steep enough for significant avalanche hazard. We never had the radios, probes and shovels that avalanche conditions require. Nor did we have the training, except for one or two staff.
The tents aren’t like anything we had in our outdoor room, and they appear to be winter tents, not the 3 season tents most staff and boys have for our summer and fall trips. That said: Didn’t a few staffers take an avalanche course at C.O.E.? Blaine Thauberger? Heath Foster?
Perhaps Cheri would know.

This is a comment that Heath Foster made on our Facebook page is response to the Memory posted this week:
This was a trip I did with the seniors. We went with C.O.E and had a tough night on that ridge. The winds were very high and a few tents were flattened. I believe Dave Rink was on that trip too. You can see Dawson in the photo, he was a great mountain dog.

It was a Leadership Trip and Rink was on it. We had very strong winds that day, cleared up the next day, but was still very cold for many. Many lessons learned that trip, and yes, that is the greatest mountain dog, Dawson.
