Over the years at St. John’s, events, trophies, and even canoes have been named for students or staff who have passed away. The best known is the Markus Yannasch trophy – awarded to the winner of the Interschool Snowshoe Race.
There are lesser known memorials; and recently negatives of one of them turned up while scanning the archive material. These pictures were taken at the blessing of the canoe named for SJCBS alumnus Rob Wallace. Rob attended the school in the early years – mid 1960’s and graduated. Not long after, he was killed in a car accident. His classmates pooled their funds to purchase the canoe, and it was officially named, blessed and brought into the the SJCBS fleet at Open House of that year.
