It could be said that using a helicopter to portage canoes is “cheating”. However, when you are trying to portage them over a mountain range – even the oldest of old school guys might agree that a helicopter was a smart idea. On the last two Nechako trips (2004 & 2008) the route took them over the Coastal Mountains beginning at west Tahtsa Lake, at the intake over the mountain and into Kemano Bay – a 32 km hike. While the students walked over, the canoes were gently transported by helicopter.
