Students at both the Manitoba and Alberta schools have experienced canoe trips using the first canoes purchased by the school in the 1960’s, the Spokane Garry and the Cockran (sometimes spelled Cochrane). It is remarkable that these canoes lasted in the fleet for as long as they did. June of 1964 was their first trip – from Minneapolis to Winnipeg. The Cockran was still in the Alberta school fleet in the early 2000’s. The Spokane Garry was gifted to David & Joy Thompson in the late 1990’s. How many of you know the story of these men whose names graced these canoes?

Were you on a trip with these canoes? What era, what trip? Send us your story.
