During more scanning this week, I came across the album for the 1975 Fond du Lac canoe trip. (This river flows across northern Saskatchewan). Almost 200 pictures were taken – just some amazing photos. One thing that really stood out to me was that this was the first time I have seen canoe crews photographed as individual groups. The photos were taken near the end of the trip – note the tired, grubby faces… (More pictures from this trip can be seen our our Picasa site).
Many of the subscribers to our Memory Monday series will have been on this trip, and can perhaps provide the names for the crew members. Sends us your memories and stories of the trip.

Wow!
I can’t put any names to faces (having been at SJCBS), but these pictures sure evoke memories.
I was struck by how much these photos looked like photos from the (US) Civil War; the youth with the “thousand yard stares”, the grubbiness and obvious fatigue, the determination and self-surety, and the lack of facial hair and mature physiques in comparison to the masters. Just exchange the paddles for muskets and rifles…
Is that ice in the water in the second-to-last photo? Brrr – another physical memory!
Thank you so much for the efforts that you put into the archival of the events and people of the St. John’s family – which is truly remarkable (the archive and the family). I sometimes am teary with the memories.
