Who can resist those faces? As much as the dogs in the kennel were working dogs – they were friends too. A quiet visit to the kennel just to enjoy the company of your favourite canine could make the difference between a good day or a bad day.

I really liked Vishnu. Pound for pound, I think she could out work any other dog. She was very smart and followed verbal commands well. She was always so happy to see you during visits – and she would sit calmly while you pet her. Rex was another that always worked hard and was very friendly. Didn’t like Cheemo – unless you used her being in heat to get Kitmit going.

On the Xmas run in 1976 there was an incident involving a bucket of leftover Swedish meatballs, Jack Gee & a young female Siberian; Blossom. The leftover meatballs got chucked into a bush where Blossom had set up residence. Needless to say she became the most popular gal in harness. I am pretty sure her running mate was Kitmit and he kept her pretty much have licked clean for a couple of days!

Ahneek was the Choir director at Selkirk.
We rang the chapel bell for compline. The dogs regarded this one as different from the school bell. But everytime the chapel bell was rung, there was a several second pause, then Ahneek would come in on a single howl solo, surprisingly deep for a female siberian.
After she did her solo 3-4 others would join in on round 2, then the others wold start their harmony. This would go on for perhaps a minute.
And it would stop.
Dead short. No tapering off. Just dead silence.
